Fun fact: November 18th was the original theatrical release date of The Swan Princess in 1994. Thus, National Princess Day was established on this date.

Last year we released The Swan Princess in high definition and had a 25th Anniversary Celebration including a screening of the remastered film.

The Swan Princess 2021 Calendar is now available.

We used the high-definition scans of the actual art cels and backgrounds, used in the production of the filmmaking this 2021 calendar a vibrant collector's piece.

For those that don't know, The Swan Princess was the last fully hand-drawn film to be released in theaters in the 1990's making the production art a special piece of history.

A production art cel is a transparent sheet of cellulose acetate that includes a hand-painted image and was used in the making of an animated film. Read more about art cels here

Q: What was the design inspiration for Odette and Odile's dress?

A: Answered by The Swan Princess Character Designer and Animation Director, Steve Gordan.

My inspiration for all the costuming for SP was based on Edith Head's work for Hollywood-style medieval type films. Like The Court Jester. If I recall right I initially designed her original dress to be more off-the-shoulder than what it turned out to be and I believe Rick pulled me back some, but when it came time for Odile's dress it seemed more appropriate to go a little more daring.

Edith Head was an Oscar winning costume designer in Hollywood in the 1940's - 1970's This is the era referred to as the "Silver Screen Age" or "Old Hollywood Glamour".

She designed the iconic little black dress for Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. She designed for almost all of Alfred Hitchcock's classic films and designed for stars like Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. One of her largest undertakings was all of the costume design for the 1956 film The Ten Commandments.

Worn by Angela Lansbury in The Court Jester                           Worn by Maureen O'Sullivan in The Big Clock.

Odette’s Diary Entry: Cancelling Autumn Harvest

        Dear Diary,

Our castle seems a lot more empty than usual. Usually around this time we would be planning autumn harvest feasts and diplomatic visits with other kingdoms, but not this year. The Great Sickness still looms over the land, and it’s best for everyone to keep inside. Of course, we’re making sure food gets to everyone, but it’s a little disappointing to not be able to see everyone this year. JeanBob in particular was lamenting (quite loudly) about how he couldn’t schmooze with the maidens from afar and everything was awful. Alise even chimed in that she was disappointed about not having the celebrations. You’d think it was the end of the world with all the gloom around the kingdom over a party. Derek and I talked about it for a while, and then brought everyone in to express themselves, because it has become suffocating after a while. Even though we can’t have a party or the usual festivities and traveling, we all still get to be together in our own way. We are be thankful we have our health, that we have each other, and that we have more than enough food for the winter coming up. I suppose it’s easy for us to forget about the simple things, especially while being consumed with royal duties. Life is not all sunshine, rainbows and parties, but at least we can simply value togetherness!
