Swan Princess Producer Seldon Young was in Phuket, Thailand during the devastating tsunami of 2004. He participated in the relief effort and made many lifelong friends during this tragic ordeal.
The elementary school in Ban Nam Kem, a remote fishing village, was completely destroyed by the wave. Seldon continues to support the rebuilding of their programs and development of their community after 20 years. Primarily he established and supports a music program. The kids in Bam Nam Kem are always excited to see Mr. Seldon and play their instruments for him.
As the area develops, tourism is becoming a prevalent part of the economy. Seldon knows how essential it is for these kids to learn English to have career opportunities in their future.
This year Swan Princess and Young Caring for Our Young Foundation are pairing to implement an English-speaking program for the kids at Bam Nam Kem called Waves of Words. American interns will travel to Thailand to spend time interacting with the school children and helping them become confident with conversational English.
They were treated to fresh coconut juice!
They watched some of the Swan Princess films and had some wonderful musical performances by the Swan Princess sponsored band and other performers.
All the kids got Swan Princess bags and socks and had fun dancing to the music.
The school has now started to call Mr Seldon “Professor WOW” (for Waves of Words) and they have a cartoon characters of him in their library.
