February 2025

Happy Valentine's Day!

There's a romantic glow around the Kingdom this month!
Secret admirers confess their feelings and couples remind each other of why they fell in love as Valentine’s Day will soon be here on 14th February!

Will you make a vow of everlasting love this month?

Our feelings can be difficult to put in to words. Lord Rogers even recommend that Derek should write a book on "How to Offend Women in Five Syllables or Less". Words are powerful and although it can be hard to find the right ones sometimes, they can be very special to hear!

Derek and Odette's love is as strong as ever and they can't wait to host a Valentine’s Day ball for everyone!

This enchanting event will be filled with music, dancing and delicious food! The ballroom will be decorated with roses of many colors and there will even be ice sculptures of cupids and swans. As the evening draws to a close, couples will be invited into the gardens for a display of fireworks in the starlit sky.

Are you sending a Valentine's Day card to someone?
Will you be mysterious and not write your name, but simply sign your card from "guess who"? Or will you openly declare your love?

Whether you spend the day with a loved one, confess your feelings to another, have time with your friends or snuggle up with your favorite movie this Valentine's Day, have a fabulous, fantastic February and make sure to keep an eye out for more swanderful news from The Swan Princess!

Princess Panna Cotta

Finish your romantic meal off with this delicious desert this Valentine's Day or enjoy it at any time of the year (with or without an occasion) as a sweet treat!
This recipe takes no time at all to prepare and you can simply leave it in the fridge until you are ready to enjoy your Princess panna cotta!
Odette has chosen to add strawberries to the finished dish (one of her favorite fruits) but you can add anything that you like!

Ingredients:
• 2 ½ sheets gelatine
• 1 2/3 cup (400ml) double cream
• 2/3 cup (150ml) milk
• 1/2 cup (60g) caster sugar
• 1 vanilla pod, split lengthways or 1 tsp of vanilla extract
• fresh strawberries, to serve
• strawberry compote, to serve

Method:
1. Fill a bowl with cold water.

2. Add the gelatine sheets to the cold water and leave to soak for 5 mins.

3. Take a saucepan and pour in the milk, cream and sugar.

4. Carefully scrape the vanilla seeds from the pod using the back of a knife. Add the seeds to the saucepan (or substitute vanilla extract)

5. Place the saucepan on the heat and stir to combine the ingredients. Allow the mixture to come to a simmer and then remove it from the heat.

6. Remove the cold gelatine from the cold water and squeeze out the excess before adding it to the milk mixture.

7. Stir the mixture until the gelatine has completely dissolved.

8. Pour the mixture into four ramekins.

9. Place the ramekins into the fridge to allow the desserts to set for at least two hours.

10. When you are ready to serve your deserts, remove them from the fridge and turn the ramekin upside down onto your chosen serving plate.

11. Add some strawberry compote and delicious sliced strawberries.

Make your own flowers!

We all know that Lucas and his family grow a range of tulips at their farm - it always brings a smile to Alise's face when he surprises her with them as a gift! Derek also shows his romantic side through flowers and one of the ways he likes to remind Odette of his everlasting love is by presenting her with a single red rose!

Flowers make a beautiful gift at any time of year! These beautiful flowers make a swanderful present for any occasion! They are also a swantastic way to show your creative side and add some color to a room!
You can make a dozen red "roses", add patterns on the petals or make a bouquet of your favorite colors (or someone else's favourite color if they are a gift). When you are finished, you can present them in a vase or tie them together with a pretty bow.
Why not try adding glitter to your petals for extra sparkle and to make it look like your flowers are sprinkled with magic!

You will need:
• Empty egg cartons (cardboard)
• Bamboo skewers
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun or white glue
• Something to add color to your flowers (paint, crayons, markers, etc. - remember a paint brush if you use paint)

Instructions:
1. Remove the lid from the egg carton.

2. Next, lay the egg carton flat and carefully cut off the peaks between each individual egg cup. Set the peaks aside for now as we will use these for the centre of each flower.

3. Carefully cut out each egg carton cup.

4. When you have separated each egg cup, cut approximately half way down each "edge" then round off the tops to make petal shapes. Each flower will be made up of two egg cartons (e.g. 6 egg carton cups will make three flowers).

5. Now for the extra fun part! Color your egg cups however you like! From all the same to different colors for each petal! You can go for Valentine's Day red, Princess pinks or do many different colors just like a rainbow!

6. If your coloring material requires time to dry (e.g. paint), set your egg cups aside to dry.

7. Now take a bamboo skewer and carefully poke a hole in the bottom of one of your flower "cups" (so that the pointy end is the same side as the open "flowers". Then gently push the skewer through the flower about an inch.

8. Using the same skewer, push the skewer through the bottom of another flower. Slide the newly added egg cup down until it sits just before the top of the first egg cup.

9. Gently twist the top egg cup so that the petals of the two egg cups fill in all of the gaps (e.g. so they are not lined up). This will make a 3D effect for your flowers.

10. Use some glue to secure the egg cups together (the top of the first egg cup and the bottom of the second one) so that they keep their position and gently push the two together.

11. Take one of your "peaks" and glue it to the center of your top egg cup (over the point of the bamboo skewer).

12. Set your flowers aside to dry before arranging them or giving them as gifts.
